WASHINGTON (TNND) — Vice President JD Vance responded to Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed calling him "Peter Thiel's boy," saying the progressive candidate is "crazy, and would be a terrible senator."
On Wednesday, El-Sayed called Vance “Peter Thiel’s boy,” referencing the tech mogul under whom the vice president previously worked and saying, “I think we’ve had enough of him,” The Hill reported.
“But that’s exactly what this is about. You’ve got Republicans who will do anything for power and money, including corrupt their office.”
Vance responded to El-Sayed's comments on Fox News’ “Saturday in America,” saying, “He’s just kind of an odd guy, but I think that it’s telling that instead of talking about what he wants to do to make the lives of Michiganders better, he takes personal insults at me. I’m the vice president, it comes with the territory.”
“I think the guy’s crazy and would be a terrible senator for the people of Michigan. We’re going to make that case, and obviously the people in Michigan are going to make their vote,” Vance, a former Ohio senator, added.
El-Sayed narrowly won his party's nomination on Tuesday against moderate Rep. Haley Stevens. He received more than $100,000 in contributions from people affiliated with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which has faced allegations of ties to terrorism that the organization denies.
