The provincial government has extended the state of provincial emergency for another seven days as the risk of wildfires continues across many parts of B.C.
The state of emergency has been extended to Saturday, Aug. 29, giving the province emergency powers under the Emergency and Disaster Management Act if required.
To date, those powers have not been required, however, those tools are available if required to respond quickly as wildfire conditions continue to evolve.
The state of emergency was declared Aug. 8 as fires continued to burn across the province, including the Bald Range wildfire that forced the evacuation of Summerland in the wee hours of Aug. 8.
While most have returned to their homes, thousands across the province continue to be on evacuation order or alert and the risk of wildfires in the Okanagan and other regions of the province remain elevated due to hot, dry conditions.
