MFA CEO sees economic headwinds continuing into 2027 for farmers
By Filed Under: Ag Inputs, Missouri, News
The CEO of MFA Incorporated says he sees economic headwinds continuing into 2027, as farmers face high input costs and uncertain commodity prices.
“It’s tough times economically,” Bob Huffman tells Brownfield. “Our role as a co-op for our owners is just to be as very efficient as we can. Anyway we can add value and help out, that’s our number one priority.”
Huffman says Missouri farmers are taking a mixed approach when it comes to securing fertilizer needs.
“In the southern half of the state, we’re seeing pretty consistent what we’ve seen in the last year. Beef markets have been good to help support that,” he says. “The north side is where we’ve seen some holding out as things were getting a little bit crazy with fertilizer prices in the last several months.”
He says the sooner farmers can let MFA know about their input plans for 2027, the better the cooperative can adapt to meet those needs.
“Waiting does give some options, maybe, but if we know what’s coming, we can go out and do asmuch work as we can to get the best help and best value. If we could work with farmers upfront, that’s great.”
Huffman is nearing his one-year anniversary with the cooperative. Brownfield interviewed him at the Missouri State Fair.
