There is analysis suggesting that the voting sentiment of the 2030 generation could become a decisive factor in the Democratic Party’s victory in future general elections. On August 27 at the Inspire Resort in Yeongjongdo, Incheon, the Democratic Party held a workshop for its lawmakers where Hee-woong Yoon, CEO of Opinions, delivered a lecture titled “Analysis of Voter Landscape and Democratic Party Challenges.”
Regarding the lecture, Democratic Party floor spokesperson Juhee Lee stated, “The framework of national stability versus regime checks will likely continue to be contentious, and while the Democratic Party currently seems to have a slight lead in terms of voting intention, there is concern that the negative sentiment among young men in their 20s and 30s could become a variable in the general election outcome.” She added, “We must continue to work diligently to win the hearts of the young generation in the future.”

Commenting on the present state of the Democratic Party, the floor spokesperson said, “Members of the core support base expressed a desire for greater alignment and coordination between the Presidential Office, the government, and the party itself.” She further stated, “Unexpectedly, there were also remarks that the party should actively reflect not only its supporters’ demands but also those and the sentiments of ordinary citizens.”
The ongoing volatility in the party’s approval ratings was attributed to real estate issues. According to the spokesperson, “Traditionally, the Democratic Party has been seen as having a clear advantage in areas such as people’s livelihoods, the economy, social stability, and reform, but its dominance seems somewhat diluted when it comes to real estate.”
With respect to future challenges, she said, “Although the Democratic Party enjoys a slight edge, it must clearly demonstrate the posture of a governing party, strong driving force, and full unity with the government compared to other parties.” She emphasized, “In particular, as about 70 percent of people in their 20s and 30s answered that ‘the Democratic Party does not understand the younger generation,’ we must make various efforts to ensure that the youth continue to be part of the party’s support base.”
