The Axios news outlet reported that an Israeli attack on the Abu al-Duhur airbase in Syria’s Idlib province has left senior US officials frustrated.
The outlet reported early Wednesday, August 19, that the Israeli attack on Syria has increased tensions in the region.
According to the report, Tom Barrack, the US ambassador to Turkey, said the administration of US President Donald Trump is “deeply concerned” and described the attack as “an unnecessary escalation that does not contribute to regional stability.”
However, Israel claimed responsibility for the attack hours later, alleging that Turkish military forces had been stationed at the targeted airbase.
Meanwhile, some US officials have said the attack was carried out because of Israel’s October elections.
