Antwerp-based creative learning startup Artwod secured €1.1 million in Seed funding to expand its platform and launch a new peer-to-peer creators marketplace for visual artists.
Antwerp-based visual learning platform Artwod has secured €1.1 million in a Seed funding round led by Airbridge Equity Partners and ForsVC. The capital will support the company as it launches a dedicated creators’ marketplace, enhances community involvement, and expands artist retention initiatives.
Founded in 2020 by former Ubisoft and Sony Entertainment concept artist Antonio Stappaerts, Artwod delivers structured, bite-sized drawing lessons combined with active peer feedback. The platform recently partnered with drawing tablet manufacturer Wacom to offer digital artists targeted exercises and immediate guidance.
The newly secured capital will facilitate the development of a creator marketplace. On this marketplace, top feedback-givers will be able to monetize their expertise by providing paid critiques and structured mentorship directly to other artists on the platform.
Modelled on interactive elements seen in applications like Duolingo and Chess.com, Artwod focuses on skill progression through short daily routines called “Learning Roads.” Over the past 18 months, the user base has scaled past 100,000 artists globally.
Speaking on the mission behind the platform, Antonio Stappaerts, Founder and CEO of Artwod, emphasized the fundamental role of human involvement in creative disciplines.
“As we witness AI performing remarkable things, we mustn’t forget that creativity isn’t only about the final output. You wouldn’t hire a robot to replace you on a family vacation and expect it to come back with your memories. The value is in experiencing it yourself. I think art is much the same,” said Antonio Stappaerts. “We believe human creativity is worth protecting. Artwod exists to help people in developing that visual creativity, and to build a community where artists actively help each other grow.”
Investors highlighted the startup’s organic community growth and strong retention metrics during the funding process.
“Artwod is one of those rare early-stage companies where the numbers and the community tell the same story. Antonio has built a product that genuinely helps people learn to draw, and his community knows it,” stated Rick van Boekel, Managing Partner at Airbridge Equity Partners. “The enthusiasm and loyalty we see from his users are not manufactured; they are earned, lesson by lesson.”
